Wondering how to wash your piece?

Patchwork Pieces:

For patchwork pieces made with cotton, linen, or cotton/polyester blends, either handwash, dry clean, or machine wash on cold and hang to dry. To ensure the longest lasting garment, handwashing or dry cleaning is recommended (but not required). To handwash: place garment in tub of cold to lukewarm water and let soak for a few hours with detergent. Hang or lay flat to dry, and iron or steam if needed.

Tiny Scrap Fabric Pieces:

For garments made of fabric “confetti”, or very very small scraps placed under tulle, it is best to handwash pieces, spot clean with a mixture of water and vodka, or dry clean. Either spray down your garment with a mixture of 1:1 water and vodka, or place in a tub of cold-lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent and let soak for a few hours, then carefully wring out and lay flat to dry. Washing machines and dryers are NOT recommended, as these pieces are very delicate.  Is it also recommended that you wear these pieces carefully, as the tulle layer holding the scrap fabric in place is delicate.

Scrap Fabric under Organza

For garments made with scrap fabric placed underneath organza, it is best to handwash or dry clean your pieces. To wash at home, either spray down your garment with a mixture of 1:1 water and vodka, or place in a tub of cold-lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent and let soak for a few hours, then carefully wring out and lay flat to dry. Washing machines and dryers are NOT recommended, as these pieces are delicate. The organza used to make these pieces are thrifted organza curtains, most of which are polyester, thus do not iron, as the fabric will melt. Steaming is recommended to remove any wrinkles. If dry cleaned, tell the cleaner that the outer layer is 100% polyester and will melt if ironed directly.

T-Shirts

For tshirts, machine wash on cold inside-out and let sit to dry. Do not hang on a hanger to dry, as this may stretch the material near the shoulders. These pieces can be put in a dryer, however this shortens the lifespan of any garment, thus it is not recommended.

Flower Brooches

For flower brooches, handwash and let sit to dry. Place in cold to lukewarm water with a small amount of detergent, and let soak for a few hours, scrubbing gently if needed.

Delicate Handwork

For pieces with any handwork; beading, appliqué flowers, etc., such as the pigeon skirt or watermelon shirt, handwash or dry clean ONLY. Do NOT place in a standard washing machine or dryer, as this will likely ruin the detail work of the garment. To handwash, spot clean with a mixture of 1:1 water to vodka, or place in a tub of lukewarm to cold water and let soak with detergent for a few hours, then let sit to dry.
