How it works

1. Design
Each month, Jane designs and produces patterns for a few garments in the size range. Playfulness, function, and fit are prioritized.

2. Sourcing of Material
Materials are sourced for each month from thrift stores and fabric stores. Jane’s Dresses uses as many secondhand materials as possible, though most pieces are lined in a new fabric to ensure comfort and longevity.

3. Production
All pieces are made in Jane’s studio in Tennessee. Each step of sewing is carefully thought out, and seam finishes are chosen for comfort and beauty. Finishing touches of the garments are done by hand.

4. Release
When all garments of a collection are done, photos are taken, social media posts are written, and the clothes are released to all of you! Sign up for email notifications or follow Jane’s Dresses on instagram to find out when the next collection drops.
The Jane behind Jane’s dresses:
My name is Jane and I am passionate about sewing cool clothes in a manner that is not harmful to the Earth! I have loved dresses since I was a little girl and people have always called my dresses “Jane dresses,” thus sparked the idea of the brand.
I taught myself how to make clothes from YouTube and books, and I am always trying to expand my skills in a sustainable manner. Animals, plants, and weird creatures often find their way onto my clothing, and I believe that everyday is an occasion to wear joyful, high quality clothing.
Every piece is designed and made by hand in Jane’s sewing studio in Tennessee.

Short Answer: it depends! If there is something I have made but has not been available in your size, it is possible that I can work with you to create it with your desired size. I work predominantly with secondhand, thrifted materials, meaning that I have less choice with what fabric I have and when, so there are no promises. Send me an email @janesdressses (there are 3 S’s) to discuss details!
NOTE: The wait time for custom garments will typically be 8 weeks. An exact date can be established once the project is confirmed. I will not copy another designer’s work. A 50% downpayment will be required prior to beginning the project.
Accepted payment methods are Venmo, Cashapp, and PayPal.

I am currently quite obsessed with the giant oceanic sunfish. They are the heaviest known bony fish in the world, weighing up to SIX THOUSAND pounds.

All clothing is returnable for store credit equaling purchase price. To return without store credit, there will be a $25 restock fee. Custom projects are NOT returnable. If you are concerned about the fit of a garment, reach out before purchasing! There is not free shipping for returns.

A combination of books, Youtube, and women in my life! My grandmother taught me how to embroider, my mother taught me how to use a sewing machine, Helen Joseph Armstrong taught me pattern drafting, and many many fellow creatives have taught me the rest. Beyond marine fish, I find lots of inspiration in my day-to-day life. I use medieval paintings, plants, walks around my neighborhood, 1950s dresses, and my husband Andrew as great sources for ideas.
